Night of Years Online Premiere
28th Mar 18Night of Years
28th Mar 18I was delighted to premiere my latest film Night of Years on March the 8th at a special event to mark International Women's Day 2018. It seemed a very fitting day for it. The event was well attended and a Q&A followed the film.
The title Night of Years comes from a poem by Josephine Butler, which features in her personal reminisces of a great crusade. Night and dark is a real motif running through Josephine’s writing, she often describes gathering clouds and darkness, as well as having dark nights of the soul.
Her daughter died in the evening and in the morning of the same day had learnt and recited this poem to Josephine.
"Every Morning the fair sun rises warm and bright, But the evening cometh on,And the dark cold night."
Night of Years seemed a fitting title. I think of her fight for reform and equality as being one long night.
International Women's Day 2018
31st Jan 18We would like to announce the premiere of the Josephine Butler Documentary at a special event to mark International Women's Day 2018. The film will be shown as part of the evening events. Throughout the day there will also be various events to get involved with, including willow weaving, singing and yoga. The film premiere will be followed by a Q and A with myself (Director) and Dr Jane Jordan (remotely) author of the book 'Josephine Butler' (A Biography) and participator in the film. I'd be delighted if as many people could make it to the event as possible. The time is being finalised but it will be evening on March the 8th.
Josephine Butler Documentary
10th Nov 17I became aware of Josephine Butler a few years ago, and was fascinated by the fact that despite the work which she did and the tremendous achievements she made in her lifetime, she was relatively unknown generally. What makes her particularly remarkable is the nature of the causes she was campaigning for and the themes of her work, which still resonate today.
I am delighted to have received finding to make a short documentary about Josephine Butler which will premiere at the International Women’s Day next year (8th March, 2018). The project has its own page on this website, which will evolve as the film is produced. You can find it here.
